ORION Platinum is the music software used by NOVAkILL for the last 5 years or so. It is basically a virtual studio, similar in concept to Reason, except that it is able to host most popular plugin formats, making it far more versatile without sacrificing ease-of-use. We found ORION after trying two of the big sequencers [Cakewalk/Cubase] and Fruityloops, which we used for around 18 months before we discovered ORION. For us, ORION's big advantages are:
-
Intuitive workflow: It works just like a hardware studio and had almost no learning curve for us at all.
-
Quality: ORION includes a dozen or so instruments and around 30 effects, the best of which compete easily with commercial plugins costing hundreds of dollars each. 90% of the effects we use are native to ORION and it's instruments are well used in every one of our songs. e.g. All our drums and loops are from ORION's DrumRack and/or TR909 and ORION's built-in Sampler is the only one we use.
-
Reliability: ORION is very stable, even when using a lot of plugin instruments, and has a very low CPU overhead compared to a lot of sequencers. Using it's native instruments can save even more processing power.
-
Flexibility: It's hardware-esque set-up provides a very flexible framework for creating complex mixes without any fuss. The fact that we have been able to create our own interface for it is another example of its superior flexibility in comparison to other software.

On this page you will find some resources for ORION. It will start out fairly small but hopefully, over time, will become a comprehensive repository for ORION-related stuff.

WALLPAPERS
Two different wallpapers. One shows keyboard shortcuts in the background, for easy reference. The other is designed to be used with the new SURFACE skins and features the same variation on the updated ORION logo. If you prefer to stretch or tile the wallpaper, simply rename the part in the brackets ["Centered"] to "Tiled" or "Stretched".
