NOVAkILL - Give Peace No Chance - FREE Killer Synths, Skins

These synths and effects were made using SynthEdit and feature extensively on all NOVAkILL songs. They are VST plug-ins and will work in most compatible hosts [on Windoze PC's only]. They are provided free for you to use however you like.

The NOVAkILL k1 basic synth is also still available as a learning aid for people who are new to synthesizers.

NOTES:
1. Many of our older synths can still be downloaded from KARA MOON, in the VSTi Downloads section.
2. Manuals for new synths will be in PDF format, contained within the downloaded zip archive.

BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD
Be aware that none of our instruments have on-board effects. We see them as being mostly a marketing exercise - there to make the presets sound good - rather than being overly useful when trying to get a good mix. Please take the time to add a little delay and/or reverb before previewing these synths, so that you can assess them more fairly against commercial instruments.

xxNEW NOVA-Class

The latest range of synths carries the other part of our name. Despite appearances, these NOVA-class instruments have evolved from the XE stuff. They each feature a new 6-stage Modulation Envelope which can be looped to act like another LFO. As well as the usual LFO, there are also two new modulation sources - the SWEEPER is a specialised LFO for creating long sweeps and the RANDOMATOR allows you to add some random elements to your sounds, for a more natural, human feel [or to make things sound crazy].
Other new features include the option for a stereo signal path out of the rejigged Filter section [sends Low-Pass and Band-Reject outputs to Left and Right separately, with panning], controls to overdrive the signal both pre-Filter and at the end of the signal path, as well as a section dedicated to setting up the Mod Wheel for more expressive performance.
The most obvious difference is a brand-new interface dominated by knobs, rather than the slider-fest previously favoured. This new layout is designed to make using these synths more intuitive. For this reason a lot less labelling has been employed, to encourage you to experiment more. In response to feedback from users, this UI has larger, easier to read labels and read-outs with much higher contrast than previous instruments. They also feature an unprecedented level of attention to detail which should make them the best sounding and most useful killerz yet.

BALLTEARER is a V/A synth,
based on ANGSTkILLER's FM oscillator.

PISSCUTTER is based on the original iDkILLER from 2002,
using the same Phase Distortion Oscillator.

RIPSNORTER is a more straightforward V/A synth,
based on BRAINkILLER's low-CPU Unison Oscillator.

xxXE Platform

Updated to Version 2.1

Thanks to Ouroboros for contributing presets. ANGSTkILLERmini is built around a simple FM oscillator. It is very easy to use, yet capable of a surprising range of usable timbres. This is one of the best little killerz of all time!

Thanks to Moe Shinola for contributing presets. BRAINkILLERv2mini uses a new oscillator from Chris Kerry with built-in unison, allowing for lots of voices with low CPU usage.

Thanks to Ouroboros and Moe Shinola for contributing presets. COLDkILLERmini features the excellent EVM Lightwave Oscillator. It has a number of useful presets, including sine, square, pulse and saw, as well as several "digital" waveforms.

If you downloaded this before October 2, you can grab the default bank HERE DREAMkILLERv2mini hasn't worked out as planned. Evolving the GUI, and trying to accommodate all the features of Chris Kerry's excellent Flexi-Osc oscillator, has turned it into something of a dog's breakfast. But it does sound good so it is here for you to try for yourself. It probably needs a manual but it is not going to get one.

xxX2 Synths

NEOkILLER X2 is back up for the first time in a while. It is easily our most lauded creation, even though we never used it much ourselves.

HOPEkILLER X2 is available for the first time. We made it a couple of years ago but, for some unknown reason, never released it, despite several requests for an update of the original. It does not have a separate manual bu tmost of the NEOkILLER X2 manual applies.

xxEFFECTS - VST Effect plug-ins

NOTE: Default Volume value of -2.4 gives no boost or cut to volume. kILL-O-RAMA's large X-Y pad allows you to concurrently set pan and volume for a channel. It also features a tempo-synched LFO to facilitate auto-panning. Now at v1.1!

killerDELAY is a multi-tap delay with 6 delay lines. Each one has it's own multi-mode filter and distortion, with a common LFO that can be used to modulate the filter cut-off. The top four delays have a maximum time of 5 seconds, the other two will run up to 10sec.

killerGATE+ is NOVAkILL's first VST effect. It combines many elements found on the synths into a handy multi-effects unit. It features an expanded GATE, a State-Variable Filter with resonance, an LFO and Distortion with Wet/Dry mix controls. It should be used as an insert effect.
